Residents of Kiwanja sit in an abandoned primary school in front of a UN peacekeepers base near the town after they and hundreds of others came here in an effort to seek refuge on Thursday after fighters from the National Congress for the Defense of the People (CNDP) clashed with Mai-Mai militias in the past two days leaving scores dead and displacing thousands.
