Slide damage in the Stillman Creek drainage

First published last Sunday, this photo shows the numerous landslides that bled off a clear-cut mountain slope in the Stillman Creek drainage southwest of Chehalis. This is a major tributary of the South Fork of the Chehalis River, which was hit with some of the worst of the December flooding to homes and dairies. Photojournalist Steve Ringman took the image on an aerial flight over the scene of dozens of slides following the huge storm that delivered up to 20 inches of rain in this area. Weyerhaeuser, which harvested this slope, and the state Department of Natural Resources, are now reviewing what happened in this unit and and other backcountry areas.
