Founded in 1947 as a military-surplus hut, it was the home of cheap Christmas trees and other goods ranging from fishing gear to underwear and pots and pans, crammed onto cluttered shelves at three locations Rainier Avenue South, Aurora Avenue North and Renton. Before it closed last year, its celebrity customers were said to include the late Kurt Cobain (for flannel shirts) and Dave Matthews (for flower bulbs). Read story.
