The Kingdome
Opened in 1976 where Seahawks Stadium now stands, the Kingdome, with its curved concrete roof, was known by engineers worldwide as a technological marvel. Never appreciated by many local sports fans, and not developed to what its designer envisioned — with shops, offices and a new floor on the 100-level for staging shows and sports — the Kingdome was imploded in 2000. Locals later stopped by to pick up souvenir concrete pieces. Read story.
