More polished than baggy, boys (and parents) welcome retro look

Parents relieved that last year's girl fashions brought back a little modesty will be doubly happy to hear that this fall, the look for boys is "towards a more polished than baggy look," according to Nordstrom spokesman Jorge Valls.

Yep, welcome back "retro classic," complete with preppy polo shirts and plain or patterned blazers.

Check out Owen Wilson in "Wedding Crashers" for an '80s flashback-inducing preview of what Valls says will be a hot look: retro argyle sweaters and vests.

Other back-to-school items boys might be wearing: woven, button-down shirts in plaid, stripes or patterns; nylon, fleece or jersey track jackets; T-shirts with slogans or retro graphics; and of course, jeans.

At Nordstrom, "denim continues to be a big trend in a variety of washes and cuts with interesting pocket details or contrast stitching," Valls says.

On their feet, expect lots of color, especially browns and greens. Lacoste sneakers have been best sellers and will continue through fall, he notes.
