Denarie Foxxe / Her boots are made for walkin' tall

"The boots are kinda bright, aren't they? But this is me. They're like a catalyst. They bring out my character."

That's how Denarie Foxxe sees it anyway, from her perch at the Wild Rose bar on Seattle's Capitol Hill. She was photographed there as she wrote in her poetry journal and talked about the boots, and the meaning of red.

"Do you remember the movie, 'Over The Top,' when Sylvester Stallone turned his hat around and became a different personality? It's like that.

"I'm not just one of the crowd in these boots, I'm being my own person. This is mine."

Foxxe, whose friends call her Dena, identifies red as a color of energy and excitement. Most every day, she wears it.

"If you deep down want to wear something, go for it," she urges.

"If most of your life, you've had to be conservative and couldn't wear miniskirts or tight jeans or tanks that show your muscles . . . do it! You'll feel so good about yourself.

"The risk is that you'll be out of your little bitty security blanket and be different. We all have to take risks."
