Cedar River Trail Park, Site 14 from "Puget Loop" of Audubon Washington's Great Washington State Birding Trail

Location: South end of Lake Washington, in Renton.

Habitat: 24-acre city park: river, freshwater estuary.

Best seasons for birding: Good year round.

Birds commonly seen: Lake guarantees great gull spotting: mew, ring-billed, herring, Western, California, Thayer's; occasional rarities like slaty-backed and glaucous; buffleheads; Barrow's and common goldeneyes; Western grebes, double-crested cormorants. See greater white-fronted geese on grass; yellow-rumped warblers, spotted towhees; song sparrows and white-crowned sparrows in shrubs.

Viewing tips: Walk 0.1 mile to boathouse platform: see sandbars, logs in lake. Bird first half-mile of 4.5-mile riverside trail.

Getting there: From Interstate 405 take Exit 5 (North Park Avenue/Sunset Boulevard). Go west on Park Drive to Park Avenue. Drive 0.9 mile. Turn right onto North Sixth Street. Drive 0.2 mile. Cross intersection; veer right into park/Nishiwaki Lane. Drive to north-end parking.
