Heavy snowfall in the Cascade Mountains in recent days will allow five ski areas to open this weekend.
This early winter storm has resulted in one of the earliest openings in Mission Ridge's history. For Stevens Pass it's the third earliest season opening in the past 25 years.
Here's the roundup of who's opening and when:
The Summit at Snoqualmie (www.summitatsnoqualmie.com) will open its Summit West ski area Saturday and Sunday. With limited operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., chair lifts in operation will be Pacific Crest, Little Thunder, Dodge Ridge and Julie's. Special early-season lift ticket prices will be $35 for adults, $30 for youth and $12 for kids. Summit West will shut down Monday and Tuesday before reopening Wednesday.
Stevens Pass (www.stevenspass.com) will open Saturday for limited daily operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Daisy and Brooks chairlifts open and a reduced ticket price of $25. The Top Phlight Terrain Park will also be open. Stevens reports 25 inches at the base, with 32 inches on the upper mountain.
Crystal Mountain Resort (www.crystalmountainresort.com) is opening Friday with limited operations. The gondola and Green Valley lift will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Skiing will be limited to Green Valley, which is intermediate to advanced terrain only. Lift tickets will be $35. There is 30 inches at the summit and 16 inches at the base.
Mount Baker Ski Area (www.mtbaker.us) will open Friday for daily operations from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at both base areas, with at least six chairlifts planned to be running. The snow depth is 36 inches at Heather Meadows base, and 45 inches at the Pan Dome base.
Mission Ridge, near Wenatchee (www.missionridge.com), will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, then will open again on Nov. 25.
White Pass Ski Area announced it will not open this weekend, but has hopes for opening by Thanksgiving.
Skiers and snowboarders should be aware of thin snow cover, bare areas, exposed rocks and other early-season hazards.
