Flooding closes some roads, recreation areas in Eastern Oregon

The declaration by forest supervisor Steve Ellis allows the Wallowa-Whitman to seek federal money for repairs.

Heavy rain and melting snow triggered severe flooding. Ellis said many roads, bridges, trails and recreation sites on the 2.4-million-acre forest have been damaged the past several days. Workers are clearing rocks and debris from roads.

The Anthony Lakes Highway has reopened to traffic, but the popular Wallowa Mountain Loop Road between Halfway and Joseph remains closed.
