Photographer: Michael Holden, Seattle
Photo taken: Dec. 25, Madrona neighborhood, Seattle
Photographer's description: "After Christmas dinner, my family took a walk through our old Madrona neighborhood. We got to the end of 35th Avenue a little after sunset. This is a 30-second exposure. I like how the lights reflect off the water."
Expert says: "The long exposure used in this picture highlights the landscape, causing the sunset to appear more vibrant and details of Mount Rainier to stand out. The wide, shallow crop applied to the frame further enhances this scene by mimicking the horizon and bridge. These specific photographic elements work together to make this a cohesive shot."
— Jessica Oyanagi, Seattle Times photo-production specialist
