Fire closes part of Pacific Crest Trail in central Cascades
A wildfire is burning in Alpine Lakes Wilderness, preventing access to part of Pacific Crest Trail and part of Pete Lake Trail
CLE ELUM, Wash. — The Forest Service has closed a section of the Pacific Crest Trail because of a fire burning in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness 21 miles northwest of Cle Elum.
The Lemah Fire was started by lightning and had grown Monday to about 600 acres. Managers plan to let it burn itself out.
It's one of 13 remote fires taking their natural course in the 4 million acre Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
The closure is for the Pacific Crest Trail (#2000) from the Mineral Creek Trail (#1331) to the trail junction with Lemah Meadows Trail. Part of the Pete Lake Trail (#1323) is also closed, from the junction with Lemah Meadows Trail to the junction of the Pacific Crest Trail, said the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest Web site.
