Free party at Lake Union Park

Here's a free holiday event at Seattle's Lake Union Park.

Get ski and boarding conditions all winter long with webcams, snow alerts and more at seattletimes.com/snowsports

Boy, do we need it now. Here's a fun, free event not far from home:

Get merry with the maritime habitués of Seattle's Lake Union Park, at the south end of Lake Union, this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Be nautical and nice.

There will be holiday crafts for the kids, such as ornament making aboard the historic steamboat Virginia V; cocoa and toy-boat building at the Center for Wooden Boats (where you can also get a free boat ride on the lake); cookies and cider aboard the tugboat Arthur Foss, entertainment by local children's choirs, and more.

It's all free. The park is where Terry Avenue meets the south end of Lake Union, just off Valley Street. More information: 206-382-2628 or www.atlakeunionpark.org.
