Photographer: Nancy Reed, Seattle
Photo taken: Oct. 12, Japanese Garden, Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle
Photographer's description: "A beautiful fall day; who could resist grabbing the camera to capture the colors of fall leaves at the Arboretum? But the koi won the prize for the most vibrant colors! Taken with a Canon Power Shot S1."
Expert says: "Never be afraid to fill your frame with a subject in a new or unusual way. This photographer zoomed in close to a koi skimming the water's surface. By contrasting the fish against the still, dark water, every delicate detail of the animal becomes apparent. This is a very thoughtful and beautiful image."
