The Washington state Department of Fish and Wildlife says the first razor clam dig of the fall season starts this week at four ocean beaches.

More digging opportunities are planned through mid-December.

Evening digs are set Thursday through Saturday at Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks while Long Beach is scheduled for two evening digs on Friday and Saturday. Clam harvesting will be restricted to the hours between noon and midnight.

Clam diggers may take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size.

A license is required for anyone age 15 or older.

The popular Kalaloch beach on the Olympic Peninsula remains closed to harvesting because of low razor-clam populations.
