More legs than the Rockettes: That might add up if you visit both Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and the Seattle Aquarium this weekend. Seattle is hosting Octopus Week, with special feedings, diver activities and an octopus release, and Tacoma has a special octopus day this Saturday.

Festival Sundiata: Seattle celebrates African and African-American culture in this colorful annual festival at Seattle Center. See our Weekend Highlight

Lion and the rat: Catch one last lion dance if you missed them all so far, this Saturday from Wing Luke Museum's old site to its new home. There's also the Tibetan New Year Festival marking the year of the Earth Rat, in Greenwood.

Oh wow, a pow wow: You can enjoy the spectacle with the Squaxin Island Tribe, as it celebrates Sa'Heh'Wa'Mish Days, with drum and dance competitions, food, and an art show and auction, this weekend in Shelton.

Old home week: It's time to make that old home look new again. Get all sorts of ideas and maybe pick up some bargains on new windows, siding or kitchen counters. There's all that and more at the Seattle Home Show, which starts Saturday and continues through next weekend.

Meet the president: President Lincoln, that is. You can have tea with Honest Abe, or a look-alike, Saturday during Civil War Living History Day at Seattle's Museum of History & Industry, also featuring an authentic military encampment on the museum grounds.

Love among the lilypads? If you can't find your own valentine, search for mating and egg-laying salamanders in the pond at Camp Long on Salamander Love Night.

Northwest Weekend editor Brian J. Cantwell, a Seattle native, lives on his sailboat in Ballard. Reach him at bcantwell@seattletimes.com or 206-748-5724.
