There's nothing like the thrill of cutting your own Christmas tree and having the fresh scent fill your house with holiday cheer. Why not get a permit to cut your own in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest this season and start a new family tradition? Jim Franzel, Snoqualmie district ranger, says before you go you should ask yourself, "What's the snowline going to be?" Having four-wheel drive and chains will help to get safely through the forest, but he also offers these tips for safe tree cutting: Go with a full tank of gas, a shovel, a flashlight, matches, blankets, a cellphone, food and water, a first-aid kit, and supplies to cut the tree and tie it to your car.
