Readers wrote to tell us their favorite places to pitch a tent or park an RV:
• "Salt Creek Recreation Area County Park (3506 Camp Hayden Road, 13 miles west of Port Angeles) is the best campground in Washington, right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Many campsites, marine sanctuary, trails, beach, bunkers, playground ... the most relaxing camping."
— Patricia Nathan, Seattle
• "Lakedale Resort at Three Lakes (San Juan Island, www.lakedale.com) for camping, fishing on one of the three lakes, and especially the new canvas cabins that make you feel that you are on a safari, and wine tasting at their lodge."
— Dan Cawdrey, Seattle
• "Middle Fork Snoqualmie Campground (13 miles east of North Bend). The first new [local] Forest Service campground in decades with a great design that includes a shared trail allowing all visitors to easily access and enjoy the river." — Thomas O'Keefe, Seattle
• "I have been taking my young students up to Denny Creek Campground (17 miles east of North Bend) since the early '80s. I never tire of watching these children discover the wonders of throwing stones into the creek, stalking the chipmunks who try to steal our food, looking for crystals in the gravel, building forts in the woods... "
— Lynn S. Beebe, Seattle
