Burke-Gilman/Sammamish River Trail

Seattle to Redmond The 27-mile trail begins at 11th Avenue Northwest in Ballard and follows old railroad right-of-way along Ship Canal and north along Lake Washington; major access points include Gas Works Park, Matthews Beach Park, Tracy Owen Station Park and Marymoor Park; paved surface for walkers and bicyclists; equestrians allowed on the Sammamish River Trail between Northeast 175th Street in Woodinville to Marymoor Park; most of the trail is ADA accessible. and Green River Trails

Seattle to Pacific The paved Interurban Trail, maintained by the cities of Tukwila, Kent and Auburn, covers 14 miles from Interstate 405 in Tukwila to Third Avenue South West, just south of Pacific. Completed sections of the Green River trail, maintained by King County and cities of Tukwila, Kent and Auburn, is 12 miles from south Seattle through Kent, connecting neighborhoods and community trails. Lake Hills Greenbelt

Bellevue Three-plus miles of multi-use trails along a wetland corridor past community gardens, Blueberry Farm and Phantom Lake, information at the Lake Hills Ranger Station, 15416 S.E. 16th St., entry points at Community Gardens, 15500 S.E. 16th St., Bellevue; Larsen Lake Blueberry Farm, 700 148th Ave. S.E., Bellevue and Phantom Lake, 2050 156th Ave. S.E., Bellevue (425-452-7225 or www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/lake).

Snoqualmie Valley Trail

Duvall to North Bend Crushed-rock, 29-mile trail on former rail route past working farms and preserved open-space areas; connects to the cross-state John Wayne Pioneer Trail in Iron Horse State Park; major access points include McCormick Park in Duvall and Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area in North Bend. Soos Creek Trail

Renton to Kent Gentle grade and natural setting suitable for walking, 4-mile trail accommodates bicyclists and equestrians; major access points include Gary Grant Park and the Soos Creek Trailhead at 145th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 240th Street and Southeast 256th Street. Cedar River Trail

Renton to Maple Valley 16-mile trail follows an old railroad right-of way, from downtown Renton's paved trail to King County's Landsburg Park's crushed-gravel trail; major access points along Maple Valley Highway; paved and ADA accessible from downtown Renton for six miles; equestrians with Renton city limits only. Iron Horse Trail

Hyak to Thorp A state park along 110 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horses, former railroad site, from Cedar Falls to the Columbia River, with views from high trestles; four small campgrounds with 3 or 4 campsites; trail access at Cedar Falls Road, exit 32 off I-90, Twin Falls natural area, exit 38 off I-90, and at Annette Lake, Hyak, Easton, South Cle Elum and Thorp, Kittitas County (360-902-8844 or www.parks.wa.gov).
