Outdoors notes: Regatta to benefit breast-cancer foundation

The 4.5K Row4Health Regatta, benefiting the Puget Sound Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is 7 a.m. Sunday, sponsored by the Pocock Rowing Center near the University Bridge. The best public viewing will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at the regatta's midpoint at South Lake Union Park/Chandler's Cove off Valley Street and Fairview Avenue North in Seattle. The regatta is open to rowers of any age in masters, open or junior divisions. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for juniors. Details: 206-328-0778 or www.pocockrowing.org

State Fish and Wildlife Department shellfish managers will host five public meetings this month and next on coastal razor clams to review last season and discuss findings of a stock assessment for the coast.

The fall razor-clam season will be set after public comments are received.

All public meetings begin at 7 p.m.: Monday at Fife High School, 5802 20th St. E., Fife; Wednesday at the Shilo Inn, 707 Ocean Shores Blvd. N.W., Ocean Shores; Sept. 23 at the Ocosta High School Library, 2580 Montesano St., Westport; Sept. 27 at the Super 8 Motel, 500 Ocean Beach Blvd., Long Beach; and Oct. 4 at the Olympic Natural Resource Center, 1445 S. Forks Ave., Forks.

Clam diggers may also submit written comments through Oct. 6 to: Dan Ayres, Washington Fish and Wildlife, 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA 98501-1091 or e-mail fishpgm@dfw.wa.gov, attention Dan Ayres.

Coho salmon fishing has reopened off Neah Bay through Sunday. The salmon season was closed Sept. 3 after fishery managers determined the quota would be achieved. But they since determined enough salmon remained to reopen Neah Bay.

The daily limit is two coho, and only one chinook.

Anglers must release all wild coho and chum salmon, along with any chinook caught east of the Bonilla-Tatoosh line. The minimum size for chinook is 26 inches, for coho 16 inches.

The Lake Washington Rowing Club will host a Try Rowing Bash 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Lake Washington Rowing Club, 910 N. The Cascade Bicycle Club's Education Foundation is offering bicycle helmets for $10. Youths younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to buy a helmet.

The Dungeness River Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 24-25 at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim.

The family-oriented festival will provide information about watershed ecology with exhibits and interactive displays from natural-resource agencies and citizen groups, plus demonstrations and kids' activities.
