Washington men's tennis falls 4-0 at Duke

The Washington men's tennis team had its season-opening four-match winning streak end Sunday with a 4-0 loss at 10th-ranked Duke.

DURHAM, N.C. — The Washington men's tennis team had its season-opening four-match winning streak end Sunday with a 4-0 loss at 10th-ranked Duke in the final qualifying match for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

After falling behind 1-0 after doubles play, the Huskies dropped three singles matches to decide the match. Kyle McMorrow, ranked 15th, lost 6-3, 6-4 to seventh-ranked Henrique Cunha at No. 1 singles. Emmett Egger was defeated at No. 2 singles by 17th-ranked Chris Mengel, 6-4, 6-2.

The match was stopped after Fred Saba edged UW freshman Viktor Farkas, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4 singles.

Other tennis

Sophie Lantta of Gonzaga's 7-5, 7-5 win over Seattle University's Corinne Wurden at No. 5 singles was the deciding point in the Zags women's 4-3 victory in Spokane.
