Montana State Billings knocks off Seattle Pacific men

Robert Mayes scored four of his 13 points in the final 26 seconds, helping Montana State Billings get past 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific for an 86-77 men's basketball win Saturday.

BILLINGS, Mont. — Robert Mayes scored four of his 13 points in the final 26 seconds, helping Montana State Billings get past 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific for an 86-77 men's basketball win Saturday.

SPU (14-4, 6-3 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) had a five-game winning streak stopped.

Jobi Wall scored 14 and Cory Hutsen 13 for SPU.

Other men's basketball

Rory Blanche had a game-high 24 points and Chris Mitchell had 20 points to lead No. 22 Western Washington (17-3, 8-1 GNAC) past Northwest Nazarene 90-71.

Jody Johnson scored 33 points on 13-of-17 shooting and had 13 rebounds to lead Central Washington (9-8, 3-6) to a 101-83 win at Simon Fraser (6-11, 1-8).

Women's basketball

Bobbi Knudsen made a free throw with 3.4 seconds left in overtime, and Montana State Billings defeated Seattle Pacific, 63-62, in a GNAC game.

The Falcons (12-5, 6-3 GNAC) were down by 16 points early in the second half, but came back to gain a four-point lead at 57-53 before Billings (13-7, 5-4 GNAC) rallied to tie the score at 57 and force OT.

Senior guard Nyesha Sims tied her career high with 26 points, and also had 14 rebounds.

• Northwest Nazarene earned a 75-62 victory over visiting Western Washington. Trishi Williams led the Vikings (12-5, 6-3 GNAC) with 15 points.

• Simon Fraser (11-6, 6-3 GNAC) rallied for a 67-64 victory over host Central Washington (5-11, 2-7), which got 19 points apiece from Jessica VanDyke and Sophie Russell.

• Eastern Washington (11-9, 5-2 Big Sky) rallied for a 75-67 win at Portland State (11-7, 3-3).

Carrie Ojeda led the Eagles with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Football

Washington kicker Erik Folk made field goals of 26 and 45 yards for the National team in a 20-14 victory over the American in the inaugural NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif.

Eastern Washington's Bo Levi Mitchell hit Oregon's Lavasier Tuinei across the middle for 11 yards to pull the American to 17-14 in the third quarter. Folk's 45-yard field goal early in the fourth extended the lead to 20-14.

Swimming

For the second straight day the Seattle University men won seven events in a 109 ½-90 ½ victory over Simon Fraser at the Connolly Center Pool.

Joe Wertz, Chris Lynch, Murray Longbotham and Jordan Anderson combined to set a pool record in the 400-yard medley relay in 3 minutes, 23.97 seconds. Longbotham also won the 200 freestyle (1:41.96) and 100 freestyle (46.56).

Anderson also won the 50 free (20.55) and 100 butterfly (50.28).

The Seattle University women lost to Simon Fraser 56-39 as well as Washington State, 59-35.

Seattle U's Alexis Morehouse finished first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.19.

Track

• Washington State's Kelsey Bueno was the runner-up in the pole vault with a lifetime-best of 12 feet, 3 ½ inches in the New Mexico Cherry and Silver indoor meet in Albuquerque. Mary Barnett was third in shot put with a season-best 44-6 ¾. Christine Rice tied for third in the high jump at 5-6. WSU's Joe Bartlett took second in men's shot put (55-10 ¼).
