The Washington men's track and field team was victorious over rival Washington State on Friday night in the final UW-WSU dual meet to be held in Husky Stadium.
The Huskies men won 83-80, while the WSU women came out ahead 92-71.
Among the UW men's highlights, James Alaka won twice (100 meters, 10.44 seconds; 200, 21.00), and Robby Fegles (16 feet, 5 ¼ inches), Scott Roth (15-11 ¼) and Jeremy Taiwo (15-1 ¼) swept the pole vault.
On the women's side, Jordan Carlson won the 400 in a school-record 54.18, and Dominique Lauderdale was a double winner (100 meters, 11.70; 200, 24.16).
UW golfers struggle at Pac-10s
STANFORD, Calif. — Washington finished strong on the first day at the Pac-10 Men's Golf Championships, but the Huskies find themselves facing an uphill battle if they want to win a third straight crown.
Six Huskies combined to shoot 7-under par over the final four holes of the evening round, and Washington entered the Stanford Golf Course clubhouse eighth after 36 holes, 15 shots back of leader USC.
The Huskies followed a first-round score of 18-over 368 with a second-round 356, the second-best score of the round.
Charlie Hughes and Chris Williams led the way for the Huskies, both tied for 11th at 1-over 141.
Cougars edge Huskies in baseball
PULLMAN — Washington State took Game 1 of the three-game Apple Cup series of baseball, using a pair of early home runs to beat Washington 5-2.
The Huskies outhit the Cougars 10-6, but couldn't capitalize. Joe Meggs went 3 for 4 with two doubles to lead the Huskies, who got at least one hit from eight of nine starters.
Other baseball
After dropping the first game of a doubleheader to New Mexico State, 10-2, Seattle University (17-20) used solid pitching and one big inning on offense to earn the split with a 5-1 victory in Game 2 at Bannerwood Park.
• Ryan Carpenter (6-1) flirted with a no-hitter in Gonzaga's 8-0 win over host Santa Clara. He was perfect for six innings but lost his no-hitter in the seventh after allowing a leadoff walk followed by a single. He finished the evening striking out nine and scattering five hits for the Bulldogs (23-13-1, 7-3 West Coast).
Softball
Teagan Gerhart hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning for No. 13 Stanford, lifting the host Cardinal over No. 11 Washington, 2-1. Kimi Pohlman, Niki Williams, Kaitlin Inglesby and Victoria Hayward each had a hit for UW (31-9, 6-7 Pac-10).
Tennis
Three Washington doubles teams lost on the second day of the Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in Ojai, Calif.
On the women's side, Venise Chan and Samantha Smith fell 8-6 to Arizona's Natasha Marks and Lacey Smyth.
In men's competition, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Kyle McMorrow lost to Arizona's Geoff Embry and Andre Vidaller, 8-4; and Martin Kidahl and Tobi Obenaus fell 8-4 to UCLA's Warren Hardie and Amit Inbar.
Rowing
The Gonzaga women, who had won 12 of the previous 14 West Coast Conference championships, finished second to the University of San Diego for the second consecutive year.
Gonzaga placed second in all three races on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif. In the varsity eight race, the Bulldogs finished 1.6 seconds behind San Diego (6:56.9 to 6:58.55).
Note
• Guy Landry Edi, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward out of Midland (Texas) College, has signed a letter of intent with the Gonzaga men's basketball team.
