Washington softball shut out by Oregon

After winning the first two games of the weekend series, the sixth-ranked Washington softball team fell 8-0 to No. 14 Oregon in the series finale Sunday at Husky Softball Stadium.
Kaitlin Inglesby (15-2) took the loss for Washington (27-3, 2-1 Pac-10), allowing five runs on five hits in 2-2/3 innings. The Ducks outhit the Huskies 10-5 and scored all eight runs in the third and sixth innings.
Marki Creger-Zier was the only Husky with multiple hits, going 2 for 3.
Huskies baseball edged in ninth
LOS ANGELES — The Washington baseball team scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to forge a 2-2 tie, but 24th-ranked UCLA scored on a one-out, RBI single from Cody Regis in the bottom of the frame to edge the Huskies, 3-2, and complete a Pac-10 series sweep.
It was the eighth straight game for UW (7-18, 0-3) decided by one or two runs.
Other softball
Western Washington (26-5) fell 4-0 in nine innings to Chico State in a semifinal of the Cal State Stanislaus Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.
Vikings pitcher Erika Quint (19-1) took her first loss this season, giving up seven hits and walking two. She also struck out nine to raise her season total to 180, setting a school record.
• Central Washington (13-11) scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 6-4 win over Cal State East Bay in the consolation bracket of the Tournament of Champions.
Other baseball
Seattle University (10-12) split a doubleheader with Sacramento State, winning 2-1 before dropping a 3-1 decision at Husky Ballpark.

• Stanford's Dean McArdle pitched 6-2/3 strong innings for the No. 11 Cardinal, which topped Washington State (11-12, 1-5 Pac-10) 4-3 in Pullman.
• Marco Gonzalez pitched his third straight complete game, leading Gonzaga (16-8-1) to a 6-2 victory over New Mexico in Spokane.
Golf
Washington's Chris Williams bounced back from a disappointing round Saturday, shooting a 5-under 67 in the final round of the Insperity/Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
Williams, who shot a season-worst 79 in the second round, rose from 54th to 18 in the individual standings. The Huskies men finished 14th after a final-round 3-over 291.
• The Washington women finished 16th at the PING/Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., the team's final tuneup before the Pac-10 championships.
Anya Alvarez was the Huskies' top finisher, tying for 46th at 12-over 228 after a final-round 81.
Mallory Kent (237) led Washington State, finishing tied for 76th, while the Cougars finished 17th.
Rowing
The Washington women came away from the San Diego Crew Classic with victories in the second varsity 8+ (6 minutes, 44.80 seconds) and the novice 8+ races (7:10.50).
The varsity 8+ finished fifth in the battle for the Jessop-Whittier Cup, crossing the finish line in 6:46.02, nearly 14 seconds off USC's winning time.
Several local crews competed at the event, with wins from Lake Union Crew in the women's master A (age 27-35) and master B (36-42) and the Everett Rowing Association in the men's junior JV.
Tennis
The Gonzaga men concluded their West Coast Conference tour in the Bay Area with a 7-0 loss at Santa Clara.
Jake Davis and Levin Guillermo had the highlight of the day for the Bulldogs (5-13, 0-5) winning 8-6 at No. 3 doubles over Eugene Muchynski and John Lamble.
• The Gonzaga women (8-9) closed out their home schedule with a 5-2 victory over Lewis-Clark State.
Clare Dodge led the way on Senior Day with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Dorothy Chong at No. 2 singles.
