Washington baseball edges Nevada, 4-3

Ty Afenir drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force in the winning run as the Washington baseball team (5-15) beat Nevada, 4-3, Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
Washington starter Jeff Brigham went 8-1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks. Tyler Kane (1-1) got two outs in the ninth to pick up the win.
Softball
A fielding error by the University of British Columbia in the bottom of the ninth brought in the winning run for Seattle University (2-18) in a 5-4 victory.
• The doubleheader between host Central Washington and Western Washington was postponed due to rain. One game will be made up as part of a tripleheader Sunday, and the other when the Wildcats visit the Vikings on April 22.
Other baseball
Justin Jones blanked Washington State for eight innings, and No. 16 California defeated Washington State (9-9, 0-2 Pac-10) 3-0 in Berkeley, Calif.
• Central Washington (6-14, 1-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) dropped two to host Saint Martin's, 5-1 and 2-0.
• Tyler Olson and Andy Hunter combined to pitch Gonzaga (12-7-1) to a 3-0 shutout of 11th-ranked UC Irvine in Spokane.
Golf
The Washington women (17-over-par 305) are 10th after 36 holes of the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., and Anya Alvarez is tied for 19th after a second-round 3-over 75.
• The Washington State men finished 13th at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.

Tennis
The Washington men dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 7 Pepperdine at Nordstrom Tennis Center. Tobi Obenaus earned the lone singles win for the Huskies at fifth singles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
• The Seattle University women defeated South Dakota 6-1 in Las Vegas.
Track and field
The Washington men's 400 relay placed second in 3 minutes, 12.89 seconds on the final day of competition at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
• Seattle Pacific's Alli Cutting won the women's 3,000 in 10:38.87 at the Club Northwest Spring Break Open at Husky Stadium.
Western Washington's Ryan Brown posted an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in winning the men's pole vault with a clearance of 16 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Women's rowing
Western Washington won all four events it competed in at the Daffodil Cup Regatta on American Lake. The Vikings won the varsity-eight race in 6:54.71, nearly six seconds ahead of host Puget Sound.
• Washington State took five of six races from Gonzaga on Medical Lake, including the varsity eight by nearly 17 seconds in 7:01.84.

• Whitworth's Rory Buck set a Division III record in the 200-yard breaststroke, winning in 1:57.79 at the NCAA championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
• The Brady Clark rink, out of Seattle's Granite Curling Club, defeated Alaska 6-5 today to win the USA Curling Mixed National Championship in Midland, Mich.
