Andrew Putnam wins Pacific Coast Amateur

The Pepperdine golfer from University Place shot a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to win in Eugene, Ore., by four strokes.

EUGENE, Ore. — Andrew Putnam, a Pepperdine golfer from University Place, shot a 1-under-par 70 on Friday in the final round and won the 44th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship by four strokes.

Putnam, a college senior-to-be, took a five-stroke lead into the final round on the 7,051-yard Eugene Country Club course. He finished at 7-under 68-69-70-70 — 277.

Putnam's older brother Michael also won the tournament at Eugene CC with the same score in 2004.

Daniel Miernicki of the University of Oregon was runner-up at 3-under 281, and Texas A&M's Cameron Peck of Olympia was third at 282.

Chris Williams, a University of Washington sophomore, shot a final-round 69 and tied for 15th at 289.

Harris takes

state golf title

BURLINGTON — Jane Harris of Seattle beat Pat Terry of Wenatchee 5 and 3 at Skagit Golf & Country Club for her second Washington State Women's Golf Association state championship.

Harris, who plays at Rainier Golf and Country Club, also won in 2002.

In the semifinals, Terry beat defending champ Anne Carr and Harris beat four-time champ Leslie Folsom.

Notes

• The Everett-based Washington Stealth, champions of the National Lacrosse League, re-signed assistant captain Cam Sedgwick for the 2011 season. The nine-year veteran scored 58 points last season.

Mallory Holtman, 25, a Central Washington softball graduate assistant and former player from White Salmon, was named head coach of the team.
