WSU freshman football player arrested / NW Briefs
Jamal Atofau, a Washington State freshman football player from Bellevue High, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.
Jamal Atofau, a Washington State freshman football player from Bellevue High, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault early Saturday after an altercation at a party near campus.
Chris Tennant, commander of the Pullman Police Department, said Wednesday that officers helped disperse a fight outside a residence.
Witnesses said the incident started in the kitchen of the residence, and two identified Atofau as the person who struck a 19-year-old female before the fight spilled into the street.
Tennant said the victim was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital and had superficial lacerations. He indicated many of the people at the party appeared intoxicated.
Atofau, who plays safety, redshirted last season for the Cougars.
Note
Washington State women's swimmers finished seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay and eighth in the 200 medley relay — the only events in which finals were held Wednesday — at the Pac-10 championships in Long Beach, Calif. The meet continues through Saturday.
