Everett Silvertips hold off Kamloops, 5-3 / Northwest Roundup
The Everett Silvertips built a 5-0 lead before holding on to beat Kamloops 5-3 in the Western Hockey League.
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Everett built a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 Western Hockey League victory over Kamloops Tuesday night.
Curtis Kulchar, Rasmus Rissanen, Kellan Tochkin, Shane Harper and Byron Froese scored for Everett (22-16-3), which held period leads of 1-0 and 5-0.
Goaltender Kurtis Mucha of Kamloops (17-20-5) stopped 28 shots, while Thomas Heemskerk of the Silvertips turned aside 27.
Basketball
Gonzaga senior Matt Bouldin is one of 20 finalists for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award, to be given in April to the nation's top point guard. The award is named for the Hall of Fame player and former Boston Celtic great.
• Andy Poling, a 6-foot-11 redshirt freshman forward from Portland, announced he will transfer from Gonzaga. Poling appeared in six games, averaging 1.8 points.
• Washington State's men's game at Arizona State on Sunday has been moved up from 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. PST to eliminate a conflict with the Green Bay-Arizona NFL playoff game in Glendale, Ariz.
Lacrosse
Jason Bloom and Cam Sedgwick were named team captains for the Washington Stealth of the National Lacrosse League. The Stealth plays the first professional game in state history at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Comcast Center in Everett against the Colorado Mammoth.
Golf
Nick Taylor, a University of Washington senior from Abbotsford, B.C., was named Canada's top male amateur for the second year in a row. Taylor, 21, was low amateur at the U.S. Open, was runner-up at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships and won the Sahalee Players Championship last year.
Tennis

Washington sophomore Denise Dy is ranked third in the nation and teammate Venise Chan is 11th in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's rankings of the year. Dy and partner Joyce Ardies are ranked 11th in doubles. The Huskies are ranked 24th.
Fastpitch
Memorial services for Richard Lee "Dick" Christensen, a former star pitcher for Pay 'N Pak and other top teams, will be Monday. Christensen, 70, died Friday. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Ave. N.E. in Renton.
