PORTLAND — The Portland Winterhawks crushed the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-0 in their annual Western Hockey League New Year's Eve game Thursday night at the Rose Garden.

Brad Ross scored two goals, and Spencer Bennett, Riley Boychuk, Chris Francis and Ryan Johansen each scored one goal for the Winterhawks, who scored two third-period goals in a span of 46 seconds.

Seattle will host Spokane at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.

Everett falls

to Saskatoon

EVERETT — Darian Dziurzynski scored a pair of goals, leading the Saskatoon Blades to a 2-1 victory Thursday night over the Everett Silvertips in a Western Hockey League game.

Dziurzynski scored his second goal of the season just 25 seconds into the game to give the Blades a 1-0 lead.

Everett tied the score midway through the second period on a power-play goal by Shane Harper. It took Dziurzynski just more than a minute to respond with a power-play goal.

Saskatoon outshot Everett 34-20.

Basketball

• At Azusa, Calif., Megan Hoisington scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Daesha Henderson poured in 16 points as the Seattle Pacific women concluded their nonconference schedule with a 71-62 victory against Azusa Pacific.

Senior forward Hoisington (Bremerton) posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the season. Senior guard Henderson (Snohomish) hit 4 of 7 from three-point range.

The Falcons (9-2) trailed just once against Azusa Pacific (9-3).
