Swimmers gather for Short Course National Championships
The meet, for events from 50 yards to 1,650 yards, will be Thursday through Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
More than 775 swimmers, including some from the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, will compete this week in the Short Course National Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The meet, for events from 50 yards to 1,650 yards, is Thursday through Saturday. Athletes will seek qualifying times for international races.
Preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m., with finals scheduled for 5 p.m. each day.
Notes
• Heather Bowman scored 22 points, Katelan Redmon added 17 and Gonzaga beat visiting Eastern Washington 87-61 in a nonleague college women's basketball game in Spokane.
• Training camp starts Saturday for 34 players invited to try out for the Washington Stealth's inaugural season in the National Lacrosse League. Practices at Comcast Arena in Everett at 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. are open to the public. The season and home opener is Jan. 9 at Comcast Arena against the Colorado Mammoth.
• More than 150 paddlers have entered the fourth annual Deception Pass Dash, a 6-mile kayak race through Deception Pass between Whidbey and Fidalgo islands. Outdoor Adventure Center sponsors the event, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Dec. 12. A paddleboard category is new this year.
