Melanie Oudin lost 7-5, 6-2 to Flavia Pennetta, which gave Italy an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five series. The fourth singles match was canceled and Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci completed the 4-0 shutout by edging Liezel Huber and Vania King in doubles 4-6, 6-3 and 11-9 in a champions tiebreaker.

Federer loses in Swiss final: Top-ranked Roger Federer lost his hometown tournament, falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to Novak Djokovic in the Swiss Indoors final in Basel. Djokovic earned his fourth title of the season with a victory that ended Federer's run of three straight titles at the tournament where he was once a ball boy.

Murray wins in Spain: Andy Murray won his sixth title of the season in his first tournament back from a wrist injury, beating Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-2 in the Valencia Open final in Spain.

Rezai captures Indonesia final: Aravane Rezai won the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Nusa Dua, Indonesia, after top-seeded Marion Bartoli retired from the final with a thigh injury after losing the first set 7-5.

Blake triumphs in Paris: James Blake of the United States beat French veteran Fabrice Santoro 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Paris Masters.

NHL

Yzerman set to join Hall of Fame: Steve Yzerman, who helped Detroit hoist three Stanley Cups and Canada win a gold, will be enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame tonight in Toronto along with Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille, Brian Leetch and New Jersey Devils president Lou Lamoriello.

Hurricanes' Ward remains in hospital: Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward remained in a Columbus, Ohio, hospital after his leg was cut by a skate, and general manager Jim Rutherford said Ward could miss up to four weeks.

Baseball

Phillies decline option on Feliz: The Philadelphia Phillies declined their $5.5 million 2010 option on third baseman Pedro Feliz. He hit .266 with 12 home runs and 82 runs batted in for the National League champion Phillies this season. He'll receive a $500,000 buyout.

Two Americans victorious at World Cup: Tucker Fredricks upset the favored South Koreans to win the 500-meter race in Berlin for his sixth career World Cup victory.

There was another American victory when Shani Davis set a course record in winning the 1,500 meters in 1 minute, 44.47 seconds.

Cada looks to become youngest WSOP champion: A 21-year-old playing in his first World Series of Poker main event is poised to become its youngest champion if he can beat an amateur logger who had never gambled for high stakes before entering the no-limit Texas Hold'em tournament in Las Vegas.

Joe Cada, from Shelby Township, Mich., is 340 days younger than Denmark's Peter Eastgate, who last year broke the age record set by 11-time gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth two decades earlier. Cada is an online poker pro who should bring more experience to the table than 46-year-old Darvin Moon of Oakland, Md.

Leparoux wins Shoemaker award: Julien Leparoux rode three winners during the Breeders' Cup, earning the Bill Shoemaker award as the outstanding jockey of the two-day event.

Marathon

Kenyans sweep in Athens: Josephat Kipkurui won the Athens Classic Marathon in Greece, leading a Kenyan sweep in a race that traces the ancient course that gave the event its name. His time was 2 hours, 13 minutes, 44 seconds.

Sailing

America's Cup challenger unveils giant wing: America's Cup challenger BMW Oracle Racing has unveiled what is believed to be the world's largest wing, which it will test as a replacement for a traditional soft-sail rig on its monster trimaran. Complete with flaps, the wing will tower nearly 190 feet above the deck when it's installed this week. It is longer than the wing of an Airbus 380, the world's largest passenger airliner.

Rodeo

Lostroh wins first world title: Kody Lostroh won $1 million for his first Professional Bull Riders world championship, and JB Mauney took the last round to become the only rider to cover all eight bulls in the world finals in Las Vegas.
