Huskies' Quincy Pondexter scores 13 in U.S. victory in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia — Washington forward Quincy Pondexter poured in 13 points Monday for Team USA, which beat Greece 108-77 to improve to 3-0 at the World University Games.

Pondexter came off the bench and did most of his damage from the free-throw line, connecting on 9 of 12 from the charity stripe. He also had two assists, a blocked shot and a rebound in 19 minutes.

In other tournament action, Washington State's Nikola Koprivica had two points in Serbia's 82-70 win over Finland.

Other basketball

Washington State's DeAngelo Casto (six points) and Klay Thompson (three) contributed to the United State's 85-69 victory over Greece in the FIBA U19 World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand.

In other action, incoming Cougar Brock Motum had a team-high 17 points, five rebounds and two assists in Australia's 87-54 victory over Kazakhstan.

Golf

Sam Cyr of Makawao, Hawaii, fired a 5-under-par 67 to take the early lead in the 36-hole stroke-play qualifying portion of the 108th PNGA Men's Amateur Championship, hosted by The Home Course in DuPont. Sitting one stroke back are Ian Dahl of Longview and Dave Bunker of Woodbridge, Ontario.

Sara Ovadia of Santa Barbara, Calif., set the pace in qualifying at the PNGA Women's Amateur with a round of even-par 72, one shot better than Bellingham's Claire Rachor, at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.

• Seattle Pacific's Jessica Pixler has been named the Division II Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The English major has a 3.92 grade-point average.

• The Washington Premier FC Boys U16 U.S. Soccer Development Academy team won its playoff bracket in Greensboro, N.C., this past week and will compete in Finals Week for the national championship beginning Friday in Carson, Calif.
