Heather Tarr, Huskies chosen as NCAA staff of year

Coach Heather Tarr and her entire UW coaching staff has been selected as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division I staff of the year.
Tarr and her staff helped the Huskies to the first NCAA championship in program history last month.
Tarr led a staff comprised of assistant coaches Gina Carbonatto and Lance Glasoe, volunteer assistant J.T. D'Amico and student assistant Dru Hester.
Notes
• The Seattle Thunderbirds selected forward Mikhal Senturin with their first-round pick, 35th overall, in the 2009 Central Hockey League import draft. Senturin, a 6-foot, 176-pound 16-year-old, has played the last two years with Moscow Dynamo. He is eligible for the 2010 NHL draft.
• Amber Johnson, a middle blocker from Mount Vernon, and Shelby Swanson, a setter from Kamiakin High in Kennewick, have signed letters of intent to play volleyball at Seattle Pacific. Johnson is a 6-1 sophomore out of Mount Vernon High School who comes to SPU after playing last year at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. The 5-8 Swanson was a key member of last year's Class 4A state-tournament runner-up team.
• Twenty-seven American crews will compete in the 160th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta in Henry-on-Thames, England. Among the American crews competing is the Green Lake Crew from Seattle, which will face English club Agecroft.
• Gonzaga incoming freshman men's basketball players Mangisto Arop and Kelly Olynyk are among the players Canada Basketball selected for the Junior Men's National Team that will compete in the FIBA U19 World Championship starting Thursday in Auckland, New Zealand.
• Ryan Benzel of Bothell is 11th with a 3-under-par 210 at the PGA Club Professional National Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
