AUBURN — Noosa Beach looks for a sweep of the first three stakes this season for 3-year-old colts and gelding at Emerald Downs when he takes on eight rivals in the $50,000 Tacoma Handicap this afternoon.
Doris Harwood trains Noosa Beach, a half-length winner in the 6-furlong Auburn Stakes and a winner by a head in the 6 ½-furlong Pepsi Cola Handicap. Harwood also trains the other top two contenders in the one-mile race, Winning Machine and Proud Nicholas.
"They're all coming into the race great," Harwood said. "I'm hoping my horses can finish one-two-three."
Noosa Beach has won four of six races, with both losses coming in route races. He was third and second last year to Gallant Son in the WTBA Lads Stakes and Gottstein Futurity at Emerald.
Winning Machine finished second to Noosa Beach in the Pepsi Cola stakes.
The Tacoma Handicap is the sixth race on a 10-race card.
