Paul Tergat withdraws from Rock 'n' Roll Seattle half-marathon with injury
Two-time Olympic silver medalist won't run half-marathon because of back injury.

Renowned runner Paul Tergat will miss the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle half-marathon.
Paul Tergat has withdrawn from the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon.
The two-time Olympic silver medalist will not run in Saturday's 13.1-mile half-marathon because of a back injury. It is a recurrence of an injury that forced him to pull out of a 25-kilometer race in Berlin in May.
Tergat has logged one of the 20 fastest times ever in the half-marathon, finishing the half-marathon race in less than an hour in 1998.
Matthew Turnbull, the elite-athlete coordinator for the Rock 'n' Roll marathon series, said the decision was made before Tergat left Kenya.
"Paul was out jogging the morning before his flight and felt some pain in his lower back," Turnbull said in a statement.
"With the length of the flight from Nairobi to Seattle, and the race itself, he decided it was best to pull out."
Kenya's Elijah Nyabuti remains in the half-marathon field and could challenge the state record for that distance.
Both the marathon and half-marathons are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday in Tukwila and finish near Qwest Field.
