EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips are expected to name Craig Hartsburg as their new coach at a news conference at 12:30 p.m. today at Comcast Arena.
Hartsburg played 10 years in the NHL and has been a head coach in the league for seven seasons, including 48 games with the Ottawa Senators last season.
The Silvertips fired coach John Becanic after the team went 27-36-7-2 and was eliminated in the first round of the Western Hockey League playoffs last March.
Notes
• Foster High School of Tukwila has announced the resignations of coaches John Barbee (boys basketball), Traci Thirdgill (girls basketball) and Mike Shannon (coed track and field).
• Oregon State has rehired Robin Ross to coach the Beavers' tight ends. Ross spent the past three seasons as the head coach at Western Washington, which dropped its football program in January for budgetary reasons.
• G. Patrick (Pat) Morris of Woodway, founder of the Morris Trophy, awarded to the Pac-10's most outstanding offensive and defensive linemen, died Saturday. He was 74.
