The fourth-ranked Washington softball team sent its seniors out in style Saturday, topping No. 12 California 11-3 in five innings at Husky Softball Stadium in the final game of the regular season.
The Huskies close out the regular season with a 41-10 record — their most wins in the regular season since winning 42 in 2003. They also finished the conference season with a record of 14-7, good for second place behind UCLA, their highest finish since winning the conference in 2000.
Washington scored six runs in the first inning, two in the second and three in the third for their fourth mercy-rule victory in conference play. The Huskies' veterans led the way, with seniors accounting for seven of the team's 11 hits.
Lost in the offensive explosion was Danielle Lawrie striking out 10 and allowing just two hits to improve to 32-6 on the season. She moved into third on the UW season wins charts, four shy of the record.
UW blitzes Beavers
A two-out grand slam from Julien Pollard highlighted a six-run first inning, and Caleb Brown homered and drove in five runs as the host Washington baseball team coasted to a 15-6 win over 25th-ranked Oregon State.
On the day that the Washington baseball facility was renamed Chaffey Field at Husky Ballpark, in honor of longtime donor Herb Chaffey, the Huskies improved to 22-24 overall and 11-9 in Pac-10 play.
Huskies starter Jason Erickson (4-4) ran his scoreless-innings streak to 22-2/3 before giving up three runs to OSU with two outs in the sixth inning. He ended up allowing six runs on 10 hits over 6-2/3 innings to pick up the win.
Women's golf
Washington's season ended with a 10th-place finish (308-300-319 927) at the NCAA regional in Columbus, Ohio. The top eight teams advanced to the NCAA championships. Sadena Parks led the Huskies with a 13-over 229 total, good for a tie for 20th place.
Men's tennis
Washington fell to 12th-ranked Texas 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA championships, finishing its season at 15-9. The Huskies got a big win at No. 1 doubles from 35th-ranked Derek Drabble and Martin Kildahl, who upset the 27th-ranked tandem of Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico 8-6. But Kildahl's 6-3, 7-5 loss to Damico at No. 3 singles proved the clincher for the Longhorns.

Women's tennis
Washington picked up its first NCAA tournament win in four years, stifling San Diego State 4-0 in the first round in Los Angeles. The Huskies (17-7) advance to a regional final match against either USC or Fairfield today.
Washington took control of the match during doubles play. The 47th-ranked tandem of Joyce Ardies and Denise Dy dominated Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Samantha Smith led the way for the Huskies in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Milana Yusupov at No. 4.
Rowing
Seattle Pacific was the second NCAA Division II crew across the finish line in the women's varsity eight race, placing fourth overall in 6 minutes, 55.77 seconds at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuykill River in Philadelphia. The Falcons' performances at the two-day regatta likely secured an at-large berth to the NCAA Division II championships. NCAA selections will be announced on May 19.
Other baseball
• Jay Ponciano and Greg Langreid drove in two runs apiece for Washington State (23-20, 12-7 Pac-10), which downed Oregon 5-3 in Pullman.
• Kevin Schneider was a combined 5 for 6 as Central Washington (18-28, 12-16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) closed its season with an 8-3, 11-0 sweep of Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.
Football
Ryan Robertson completed 10 of 16 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown, helping lead the White team to a 7-3 victory over the Crimson team in Central Washington's spring game at Tomlinson Stadium in Ellensburg.
