Cougars wide receiver Brandon Gibson has accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl, on Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. Pacific in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised by the NFL Network.
An honorable-mention All-Pac-10 Conference selection, Gibson completed his Cougars career as WSU's all-time leader in career receiving yards (2,756) and ranked second on the school's career receptions list (182). Gibson's 17 career touchdowns rank sixth all-time at WSU.
The Senior Bowl is perhaps college football's premier pre-draft event, annually featuring the nation's best senior football stars and top NFL draft prospects on teams coached by NFL coaching staffs. Senior Bowl practices and weekly festivities are attended by more than 800 general managers, head coaches, assistant coaches, scouts and other front-office personnel from all 32 NFL teams.
Meanwhile, Cougars fans in Western Washington will have two opportunities to meet second-year coach Paul Wulff and his staff at "A Night With Cougar Football" events, a season preview celebration dinner and auction.
The event programs include a preview of the 2009 season.
The first event will be Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Skookum Creek Event Center, adjacent to the Little Creek Casino and Resort. The events center is just minutes north of Olympia on Highway 101 in Shelton. Social hour and a silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner starting at 6:30 p.m.
Individual tickets are $50 for WSU Athletic Foundation members and $60 for non-Athletic Foundation members.
The football caravan moves north on Feb. 6 to the W Hotel (1112 Fourth Ave.) in Seattle. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction; dinner is at 7 p.m.
