Former skater Vera Wang is a good fit for the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

Vera Wang: The fashion designer will be inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame on Jan. 23 during the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Cleveland.

"The only thing that I loved as much as skating were clothes," Wang once said.

Wang began skating when she was 8 and twice reached the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, finishing fifth in junior pairs with James Stuart in 1968. She worked at Vogue — where she was the youngest-ever fashion editor — and Ralph Lauren before opening her own boutique in 1990, selling her trademark wedding dresses and couture gowns.

She combined her two loves, designing costumes for Olympic silver medalists Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.

Jim Bunning: He was the toast of Detroit when he threw a no-hitter for the Tigers in 1958, but now, as a U.S. senator from Kentucky opposing a federal bailout for the auto industry, he can't even get a gig signing autographs at a suburban sports-card show.

Bunning was to appear today at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor, Mich., but he was kicked off the schedule after he helped derail an auto-industry loan package in the Senate on Thursday.

Owner Jim Koester says he can't support someone who voted against Michigan's economic well-being, even if he is a Hall of Famer who pitched for the Tigers from 1955 to 1963. Fans would have paid $35 for Bunning to sign a baseball, $55 to sign a bat.

Kevin Johnson: The former NBA star turned Sacramento mayor is seeking to boost the power of the office he's held for less than two weeks. The mayor says he will ask voters to change the city charter to give him powers that include proposing the city budget, appointing department heads and veto authority over the city council.
