Other nominees for the swimming awards include Beijing gold medalists Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin, Jason Lezak, Rebecca Soni and Dara Torres.
Olympian Emily Silver of Bainbridge Island is among the swimmers nominated for a Golden Goggle Award. Silver is nominated for the Perseverance Award, given to an athlete who overcame adversity, illness or injury, or returned from retirement, to have an outstanding performance at the Beijing Games. Silver had broken her hand in the weeks before the Games and earned a silver in the 400 free relay, for which she swam in a prelim.
Margaret Hoelzer, who trained at the King County Aquatic Center before the Olympics, is nominated for female athlete of the year.
The gold-medal-winning men's 400 free relay — for which Nathan Adrian of Bremerton swam in the prelims — is nominated for relay performance of the year.
