Seattle Pacific

women win in OT

Amanda Johnson scored two goals, including the game-winner with less than two minutes left in the second overtime to lift eighth-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 3-2 victory over No. 24 Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference soccer game at Interbay Stadium.

Johnson's goal turned back a Dominguez's rally — the Toros overcame a 2-0 deficit — to force overtime. The sophomore forward stopped just outside the box after a long dribbling run down the center of the field and launched a 20-yard blast into the upper right corner to end the game.

The Falcons (2-0-1) took the early lead on a 35th-minute goal by Johnson and a 52nd-minute strike from Jenkins.

Greg Piechota assisted on the first two goals Wednesday, leading No. 8 Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Pacific men in a nonconference soccer game at Interbay Stadium.

SPU (0-1-1) lost to the Toros (3-0) for the seventh straight time. Goalkeeper Ben Lovelace made four saves for the Falcons, who were outshot 20-8.

The SPU men now face a four-game trip, beginning Friday at fourth-ranked Sonoma State in Rohnert Park, Calif.

Runner slain

in Tacoma

Joshua Thomas Gatbunton, 20, of Lakewood, was one of two men shot early Wednesday at an apartment in Tacoma's South End.

Gatbunton died about 4:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

Gatbunton attended Mount Tahoma High School and had been a member of the Saint Martin's cross country and track and field teams.

The other man's injuries were described as serious.

The 10th-ranked women's team, coming off a season-opening 2-0 win over Chapman University, heads to California for a Friday afternoon match against No. 22 UC Santa Cruz.
