Iguodala could have been free agent next summer: The Philadelphia 76ers re-signed Andre Iguodala on Sunday, giving the forward a six-year contract worth a reported $80 million.
Iguodala, who was a restricted free agent, helped the 76ers reach the playoffs for the first time in three years. An official announcement is expected today.
The 24-year-old Iguodala could've played this season under terms of a $3.8 million, one-year qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next year.
Retaining Iguodala was a top priority for Philadelphia, which lured two-time All-Star forward Elton Brand away from the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this summer.
Soccer
Red Bulls blank FC Toronto: Mike Magee and Juan Pablo Angel scored goals to lead the host New York Red Bulls to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer action.
Jon Conway made four saves for his fifth shutout of the season and the 19th of his career as the Red Bulls (7-6-7) won their second straight match.
Toronto FC (7-9-4) had its best scoring chance in the 24th minute when Conway made a diving, one-handed save on Nana Attakora-Gyan's header off a crossing pass.
Early advantage for Chelsea: Chelsea gained an early advantage over Manchester United in the Premier League title race, routing Portsmouth 4-0 as the defending champion was held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle.
American goalkeeper Brad Friedel made his league debut, helping Aston Villa to a 4-2 win over Manchester City in Sunday's other match on the opening weekend of the season.

Del Potro's streak continues: Juan Martin del Potro won his fourth straight tournament, beating Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-3 to take the Legg Mason Tennis Classic championship in Washington. The 19-year-old Argentinian, ranked No. 19 in the world, has won his last 19 matches since June 25, when he was bounced from Wimbledon in the second round.
"I feel confidence," del Potro said. "Because when I go to the court, and the other players know I beat 19 players in a row and nobody can beat me, it is good for me."
However, del Potro acknowledged his streak hasn't come against top-ranked competition. Just two of the wins came against players in the top 30, with the best coming against Andy Roddick at No. 9.
"I don't play against [Rafael] Nadal or [Roger] Federer or any top, top players," del Potro said. "I don't know what will happen when I play against them, but it will be a good test for me."
Straight-set win for Petrova: Second-seeded Nadia Petrova dominated unseeded Nathalie Dechy, 6-2, 6-1, to win the Western and Southern Financial Groups Women's Open in Mason, Ohio.
Petrova, who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon this year, clinched the win with a forehand return on her second match point to earn her first championship since the 2007 Tier II Paris indoor tournament. It was her first outdoor title since the Tier I Berlin Open on clay in 2006.
Cash takes Champions Cup: Pat Cash beat Jim Courier 6-3, 6-4 to win the Hall of Fame Champions Cup title in Newport, R.I.
Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon winner, earned $54,000 and his first tournament victory on the Outback Champions Series, the circuit for champion players 30 and over. Courier was beaten on the day he turned 38.
Magnus Larsson beat Mal Washington 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match.
Horse racing
America's Friend wins Solana Beach: America's Friend edged Lightmyfirebaby by a length in the $109,700 Solana Beach Handicap for older fillies and mares at Del Mar. Under Alex Solis, America's Friend ran once around the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course in a stakes-record 1 minute, 32.98 second.
America's Friend returned $6.20, $3.80 and $3, and earned $65,820 for her fourth victory in 24 starts to push her career total to $263,148.
Field study for Kentucky Derby: A Jockey Club panel will study whether the number of horses allowed into the Kentucky Derby poses a safety risk. The race regularly draws 20 horses to the race. Typically, other races are limited to just more than a dozen.
The panel was created after the death of Eight Belles in this year's race.
