Busy offseason for Clips: The Los Angeles Clippers acquired still another player during their busy offseason, signing free-agent point guard Jason Williams on Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.
The 32-year-old Williams averaged 8.8 points, 4.6 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 28 minutes in 67 appearances last season with Miami.
The Clippers have added 10 new players this summer, including Baron Davis and Marcus Camby.
College football
Ingram out for season: Florida tight end Cornelius Ingram will miss the season because of a torn knee ligament. Florida coach Urban Meyer said Ingram, who nearly skipped his senior year to jump to the NFL after last season, will undergo surgery within the next week to repair a torn left ACL.
Former Tiger now a Sooner: Former Louisiana State offensive lineman Jarvis Jones has transferred to Oklahoma. Jones played seven games during the Tigers' national championship season last year but was dismissed after breaking team rules.
KSU extends Prince's contract: Kansas State coach Ron Prince signed a five-year contract through 2012, receiving a vote of confidence from administrators after the team struggled to a disappointing 5-7 finish last season.
Tennis
Roddick rolls: Top seed Andy Roddick earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Dusan Vemic of Serbia in the second round of the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles.
Roddick's easy win capped a day in which former NCAA champion Amer Delic upset No. 7 seed Carlos Moya, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5); 19-year-old Argentine Juam Martin del Potro, the third seed, beat Italian qualifier Andrea Stoppini, 6-4, 6-2; and March Gicquel of France beat 19-year-old American Donald Young, 6-3, 6-3.

Chelsea makes offer for Robinho: Chelsea moved closer to signing striker Robinho after submitting a formal bid to Real Madrid. The Premier League club said last week that a transfer was being delayed by the Spanish champion's inability to sign a replacement.

New TV deal for IRL: The Indianapolis 500 and four other IndyCar Series races will be televised by ABC Sports at least through 2012 in a contract extension, the league announced.
Also, the Versus cable channel, already the home of the NHL, Davis Cup and Tour de France, will carry at least 13 IndyCar races annually for the next 10 years. The move to Versus means ESPN will no longer carry IRL races on its domestic channels.
Woman suing NASCAR has spotty background: Mauricia Grant, who has accused NASCAR of racial discrimination and sexual harassment in a $225 million lawsuit, had a restraining order filed against her by a former boyfriend and was arrested for driving under the influence, The Associated Press reported. An attorney for Grant said previous actions have no bearing on the suit.
Boxing
November date for Calzaghe, Jones: Joe Calzaghe will face Roy Jones Jr. on Nov. 8 at Madison Square Garden in a light heavyweight fight that was rescheduled after the undefeated Welshman sprained his wrist in training.
Horse racing
Raffie's Treasure wins feature: Raffie's Treasure romped to a nine-length victory in the $150,000 New York Stallion Stakes Statue of Liberty division for 3-year-old fillies and mares at Saratoga. Raffie's Treasure ran 1-1/8 miles in 1 minute, 53.48 seconds and paid $14.20, $5.60 and $3.80.
NCAA
Staying with status quo: The NCAA's executive committee decided it couldn't eliminate alcohol advertising nor stop the incorporation of college sports into the fantasy games and decided, essentially, to retain the status quo.
The meeting occurred on the same day the NCAA announced a federal court had approved its proposed settlement with 12,000 former student-athletes seeking reimbursements for educational expenses, resume preparation and career counseling.
As part of the deal, the NCAA will create a $10 million fund for former student-athletes who signed on to the class-action lawsuit.
