Notebook | Investors will build replica of Miss Wahoo hydroplane

A group of prominent investors will build a replica of the Miss Wahoo, a famous hydroplane from the 1950s and '60s. The boat will be owned by the Unlimited Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum and the group hopes to run the boat in an exhibition next year at Seafair.

Seattle Times staff reporter

A group of prominent investors is teaming to build a replica of the Miss Wahoo, a famous hydroplane from the 1950s and '60s.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the annual banquet of the Unlimited Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum, held Thursday night.

The boat will be owned by the museum, and the goal is to have it ready to run an exhibition at Seafair next year.

Among the investors is Bill Boeing Jr., who owned the original Miss Wahoo, which raced from 1956 to 1966, ending its competitive career as the Miss Budweiser. Another is Mira Slovak, who was the driver of the Miss Wahoo before being injured in a famous accident during the 1960 Seafair race.

The boat will be built at the museum using professional staffers and volunteers.
