BRANDENBURG, Germany — Washington rowers helped the U.S. and Canada to medals in the men's eight and women's eight at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships Sunday.
Washington's Blaise Didier and the U.S. men's eight won the 2,000-meter race in 5 minutes, 49.42 seconds, beating out a Canadian squad that included Huskies Rob Gibson, Will Crothers, Anthony Jacob, Stephen Connolly, Conlin McCabe and Chris Aylard, and finished in 5:53.30.
In women's rowing, Washington coxswain Katelin Snyder guided the U.S. women's eight — which included Seattle's Katherine Glessner and Spokane's Jamie Redman — to the gold in 6:36.01.

• The 10U Acers fastpitch team from Auburn posted a 7-6 win in eight innings over the East County Hot Shots from California to win the Western World Series NSA fastpitch championship Saturday in Reno, Nev.
• West Seattle's Tamela Thomas won gold medals in forms, weapons and sparring divisions at the 2008 Tang Soo Do martial arts world championships July 12 in Orlando, Fla.
