Randle among Hall enshrinees: Former Notre Dame defensive tackle Chris Zorich still can't believe he's in the College Football Hall of Fame.

The 1990 Lombardi Award winner as the nation's top college lineman looks at some of the other members of the class enshrined along with him Saturday in South Bend, Ind. — Penn State coach Joe Paterno, 1984 Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and '89 Heisman runner-up Anthony Thompson — and finds it hard to believe he's being honored with them.

"These are the greats who made college football," said Zorich, the youngest member of the class at 39. "So having a chance to be associated with these guys is terrific."

John Randle, who played at Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1988-89 and had 34 sacks in 20 games, said he never dreamed of making it to the Hall.

"It's unbelievable," said Randle, who went on to play 11 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and three with the Seahawks. "I just played football because it was fun. I never thought this would happen."

Also enshrined were Mount Union QB Jim Ballard; Oklahoma C Tom Brahaney; Michigan DB Dave Brown; Clemson LB Jeff Davis; Texas DB Johnnie Johnson; Ohio State QB Rex Kern; North Alabama LB Ronald McKinnon; Oregon RB Ahmad Rashad; McMurry HB Brad Rowland; Houston DT Wilson Whitley; Dartmouth LB Reggie Williams; and USC LB Richard Wood.

Soccer

Galaxy, Red Bulls play to draw: Landon Donovan scored in the 92nd minute to get the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-2 tie with the New York Red Bulls in East Rutherford, N.J., before 46,754 fans, the largest crowd for a Major League Soccer game this season.

In other MLS results, host Toronto FC tied San Jose 0-0; visiting Colorado tied FC Dallas 2-2; and Real Salt Lake and host Chicago finished in a 0-0 draw.

D.C. United eliminated: Bobby Boswell and Ricardo Clark scored off assists from Brad Davis to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 3-1 victory that eliminated D.C. United from SuperLiga play.

Williams withdraws: Serena Williams injured her left knee and pulled out of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, becoming the third singles player on the U.S. women's Olympic tennis team with a knee injury.

Williams retired from her match after losing the first set and falling behind in the second set of her semifinal against qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak.

Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport, the other U.S. Olympic singles players, have already pulled out of next week's East West Bank Classic in Carson, Calif., due to right knee injuries. Serena Williams said she still plans to go to Carson, but will likely have an MRI before then and could choose to rest up for the Olympics next month.

Blake upset: Top-seeded James Blake was upset by defending champion Dimitry Tursunov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Indianapolis Tennis Championships.

Tursunov, the third seed, will meet second-seeded Gilles Simon in today's championship match. Simon outlasted fourth-seeded American Sam Querrey 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the other semifinal.

Horse racing

Upset at Meadowlands: Art Official had to set a world record for 3-year-old pacers to narrowly upset previously undefeated Somebeachsomewhere in the $1.1 million Meadowlands Pace.

Art Official took a neck-length victory in 1 minute, 47 seconds, shattering the old 3-year-old record of 1:47.4 set by American Ideal in 2002 at the Red Mile in Kentucky.

Gio Ponti wins in Va.: Gio Ponti took the lead in the upper stretch and held off a brief run by Colonial Turf Cup winner Sailor's Cap and a more determined effort by Court Vision to win the $75,000 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs. The colt stonewalled Court Vision's inside shot at the wire with Kent Desormeaux aboard to prevail by a neck in 2:02.22.

Sound run for Music Note: Music Note turned in a dazzling performance, beating entrymate Little Belle by 11 lengths in the $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at Belmont Park. The time was 2:01.66 for the 1 ¼ miles on the fast track.

California to ban steroids: The California Horse Racing Board has unanimously adopted a regulation that effectively bans anabolic steroids in horses running in the state, paving the way for the Breeders' Cup to be run steroid-free this fall at Santa Anita.
