Chris Chandler: The former Washington and NFL quarterback from Everett, left, is determined to defend his title this week at the 19th annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Stateline Nev.
But most of the others in the field of nearly 80 past and present sports stars and entertainers are focused on the opposite end of the scoreboard where Charles Barkley's name is usually found.
"As long as I'm ahead of Charles, I'm in good shape," said Dallas Mavericks star Jason Kidd.
Barkley, the former NBA star and TNT commentator, is a 500-1 longshot to win the 54-hole tournament at the 6,707-yard Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, according to oddsmakers.
Chandler fired a 5-under 67 on the final day and set a tournament record for Stableford points (78) in winning last year.
Michael Jordan, John Elway, Tony Romo, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky and Jerry Rice are among some of the others who will tee it up in Friday's opening round. Also in the field with Washington ties are ex-Sonics Ray Allen and Wally Szczerbiak; ex-Seahawk Jeff Feagles; ex-Mariner Vince Coleman; and former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien of WSU.
