Lacrosse | Issaquah boys rise to challenge, upset Bainbridge
Travis Wright had a hat trick, and Issaquah responded to its coach's challenge to upset Bainbridge 11-8 in the Division I boys final at the 30th state high-school lacrosse championships Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Bainbridge's bid for a perfect season fell victim to a coach's challenge and Travis Wright's hat trick.
Issaquah upset Bainbridge 11-8 Saturday at Memorial Stadium for the school's first Division I boys title at the 30th state high-school lacrosse championships.
Bainbridge led 6-3 and seemed poised to earn the team's 12th state title when Issaquah coach Brandon Fortier called time out with 7:30 left in the third quarter and issued a challenge.
"This is a prize fight," the coach told his team. "You might get knocked out, but let's go down swinging."
Issaquah scored almost immediately and then dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Bainbridge 6-2. The Eagles won 8 of 9 faceoffs and 10 of 16 ground balls in the quarter.
Bainbridge closed to one on Zach Ingrassci's goal, but Jordan Goldstein and Todd Jones scored to ice Issaquah's win.
Wright also had two assists for Issaquah, and Jones and Joey Henderson each scored twice for the Eagles, who were making their third appearance in the finals. Ingrassci scored three goals for Bainbridge.
In the boys Division II final, Northshore upset previously unbeaten Seattle Prep 12-11. In the girls Varsity B final, Saryre Creighton scored four goals as Snohomish defeated Bellevue 13-3.
