De La Hoya aims for bout with Mayweather: Oscar De La Hoya had a few minutes to take a shower and change from boxing trunks into something a bit less revealing. His job not yet finished for Saturday night, he stood in the same ring in Carson, Calif., where he beat Steve Forbes by unanimous decision and wasted no time promoting his next act.
De La Hoya, 35, is as adept at promoting fights as he is in fighting them.
"I tell you one thing, I can't wait until September," he said.
For those not briefed on De La Hoya's retirement-tour plans, September means Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the rematch of a lucrative fight. That assumes negotiations with Mayweather go according to plan — and with all the millions on the table, there are few in boxing who doubt the two sides will come to an agreement.
All that remains is selling the fight to fans, who might have felt they didn't get their money's worth in the fight in May 2007. De La Hoya earned about $45 million from the first bout, which he lost by split decision.
"This is very personal," De La Hoya (39-5) said of the potential rematch. "You watch, I'm going to beat the best."

McEnroe triumphs: John McEnroe, 49, won his first Outback Champions Series title, beating 40-year-old Aaron Krickstein 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 (Champions tiebreak) in Boston. The tour is for players at least 30.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich secure titles: Real Madrid of Spain and Bayern Munich of Germany won their respective league titles despite less-than-stellar performances.
Real Madrid beat Osasuna 2-1 in the Spanish league to win its record 31st title.
Bayern Munich clinched the title in the Bundesliga, Germany's top league, after a scoreless draw at VfL Wolfsburg. Bayern Munich has 21 German championships.
Arsenal triumphs: Arsenal needed a late header from Nicklas Bendtner to beat Everton 1-0 in the English Premier League. The victory gives Arsenal a chance to overtake Chelsea for second place and an automatic spot in the group stage of next season's UEFA Champions League.
Rapids beat D.C. United: Jacob Peterson and Facundo Erpen scored as the Colorado Rapids beat D.C. United 2-0 in a Major League Soccer match.
Ronaldo says he is embarrassed: Brazilian player Ronaldo said he is sorry, embarrassed and ashamed about his highly publicized encounter last week with three cross-dressing prostitutes, calling it the biggest mistake of his life.

Walsh has injury: Kerri Walsh — one-half of the team that won the 2004 Olympic gold medal in Athens, Greece, and a top hope for a U.S. victory this year in Beijing — withdrew from the Cuervo Gold Crown tournament in Huntington Beach, Calif., because of lingering effects from a right-shoulder surgery.
Walsh joined forces with Misty May-Treanor to win the 2004 gold medal.
Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh earned a $25,000 bonus when Walsh and May-Treanor forfeited. On the men's side, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal won the $25,000 bonus.
International hockey
Kessel excels: American Phil Kessel had a hat trick in a 5-1 victory over Slovenia in a preliminary-round game of the world championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
International basketball
CSKA Moscow takes title: CSKA Moscow won its sixth Euroleague championship, as Trajan Langdon scored 21 points in a 91-77 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in Madrid, Spain.
College baseball
Hutts report: Officials said Georgia Tech pitcher Michael Hutts, 21, who was found dead in his apartment April 11, died accidentally of morphine toxicity.
