Coastal razor-clam lovers are gearing up for what most likely is the last digging opportunity this spring.
Long Beach and Twin Harbors will open May 3-7, and Copalis and Mocrocks will open May 4-5 only. Digging is allowed from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. each day. Kalaloch Beach will remain closed.
"With unseasonably cold and snowy weather, fewer diggers than expected turned out, so the overall catch was less than anticipated," said Dan Ayres, the head state Fish and Wildlife coastal shellfish biologist said of last month's opener.
Ayres said this would likely be the final razor-clam opener before fall. The daily limit is the first 15 razor clams dug. Each digger's limit must be kept in a separate container.
Low tides
May 3, minus-0.3 feet at 5:27 a.m.; May 4, minus-1.2 at 6:16 a.m.; May 5, minus-1.9 at 7:04 a.m.; May 6, minus-2.3 at 7:51 a.m.; and May 7, minus-2.4 at 8:39 a.m.
