Nanci Donnellan: The pioneering radio broadcaster — aka "The Fabulous Sports Babe" — is returning to a regular radio sports-talk show after a 10-year absence.
Donnellan, diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, took a hiatus from the industry to fight her disease. After surgery and physical therapy, she has been cancer-free for a decade.
She recently signed a deal with WHBO (ESPN 1470 AM) in Tampa, Fla. The show, co-hosted by Scot Brantley, will air from 3 to 6 p.m. daily.
The first woman to host a national sports-radio talk show in 1994 when she debuted with ESPN Radio, Donnellan had previously worked in Seattle for KJR (950 AM) from 1991 to 1994. She began her radio career in Tampa at WNSI in 1981 and also wrote a book about her experiences, "The Babe in Boyland."
She lives in Gulfport, Fla., where she says she "floats in the pool and hurls insults at the neighbors."
